NFL Reviewing Ravens' Rashod Bateman Over June Family Violence Arrest
The receiver was arrested in Georgia on charges including family violence battery and property damage; his attorney calls the situation a personal family matter taken out of context.
The NFL is reviewing Baltimore Ravens receiver Rashod Bateman after his June 3 arrest in Georgia on charges including misdemeanor family violence battery, reckless conduct and first-degree criminal damage to property, the league confirmed Friday.
What do the charging documents allege?
According to the arrest warrant, Bateman used an object to smash the driver's-side window of a vehicle being driven by the mother of his child, and shattered glass caused multiple small lacerations to her face. The couple's three-month-old child was reported to be in the vehicle at the time.
What have the team and Bateman's side said?
The Ravens said Friday they are aware of the June arrest and have been in contact with Bateman, and that they've informed the NFL. The league confirmed the case is under review. Bateman's attorney, Jordan Siev, said: "It is unfortunate that a personal family situation has been taken completely out of context for sensational reasons."
What's the current status?
The status of the underlying criminal case, including any court dates or plea, has not been disclosed, and the NFL has not announced a timeline or outcome for its review.
