Alfred Collins is a defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers, selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft to bring size and run-stuffing ability to the interior of Robert Saleh's defense. At 6-foot-6 and 332 pounds, he was brought in after San Francisco cut its starting defensive tackle duo in a cost-cutting move.

Path to the league

Collins spent five seasons at Texas, with his draft stock rising sharply after a strong 2024 campaign in which he posted 55 tackles, six tackles for loss and a sack across 16 games. San Francisco traded up to select him with the 43rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Over his five collegiate seasons at Texas, Collins totaled 141 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, seven sacks, 12 passes defensed, an interception and two forced fumbles. His combination of length, with a 34 5/8-inch arm measurement, and size made him a coveted run-defense piece heading into the draft.

2025 season recap

Thrust into an early starting role as a rookie due to San Francisco's lack of interior line depth, Collins started games right away and finished with 17 tackles, four solo, and his first career sack, along with two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two pass deflections across 16 games. It was a modest statistical debut but a significant workload for a rookie asked to anchor the middle of the line.
