A former Independence Bowl Defensive MVP at Houston, Green has made his NFL living as one of the Giants' top special-teams gunners.

Art Green is a cornerback for the New York Giants whose NFL role has centered on special teams as much as coverage snaps. After going undrafted out of Houston in 2023, he worked his way from Denver's practice squad to a steady spot on New York's roster.

Path to the league

Green played junior college football at Hutchinson before transferring to Houston, where he appeared in 34 games with 15 starts from 2020 to 2022, recording 78 tackles, three tackles for loss, 15 passes defensed and three interceptions. He earned second-team All-AAC honors as a senior and was named Independence Bowl Defensive MVP after a nine-tackle performance against Louisiana-Lafayette. He went undrafted in 2023 and spent that season on Denver's practice squad before signing with the Giants in November 2024.

Career highlights

Green's calling card in the NFL has been his work as a gunner on punt coverage, where his size and physicality have made him a difficult matchup for opposing return units. The Giants re-signed him as an exclusive rights free agent heading into 2026 after he established himself as a core special-teams contributor.

2025 season recap

Green played in nine games for the Giants in 2025, logging heavy special-teams snaps as the club's top gunner when healthy. He suffered a hamstring injury in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles that landed him on injured reserve on November 1, 2025, ending his season early after he had recorded six solo tackles.
