A former Cal track hurdler turned NFL safety, drafted in the third round by the Jets and now bringing his ball-hawking instincts to San Francisco.

Ashtyn Davis walked onto Cal's track team before ever suiting up for football, eventually becoming a Pac-12 hurdles champion alongside his defensive back duties. Six NFL seasons later, split between the Jets and Dolphins, he joined the 49ers secondary in 2026.

Path to the league

Davis walked onto California's track team before earning a football tryout as a freshman. As a redshirt junior in 2018 he racked up 56 tackles, five passes broken up, and four interceptions, earning first-team All-Pac-12 honors. He also won the Pac-12 title in the 110-meter hurdles and picked up second-team All-American track honors. The New York Jets took him in the third round (68th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Davis spent five seasons with the Jets (2020-2024), appearing in 59 games with 22 starts despite injuries limiting his 2022 season. He signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins in March 2025, where he recorded an interception, four pass deflections, a forced fumble, and 65 combined tackles across 15 games. For his career he has totaled 240 tackles, 9 interceptions, and 19 pass deflections.

2025 season recap

Playing for Miami in 2025, Davis started 12 of his 15 games, contributing 65 combined tackles, an interception, four pass deflections, and a forced fumble as a full-time member of the Dolphins' secondary. In June 2026 he signed with the San Francisco 49ers on a one-year contract.
