Path to the league

Russell walked on at Colorado and earned a scholarship during fall camp in 2018, going on to play tight end for the Buffaloes through the 2022 season and finishing with 78 receptions for 799 yards, highlighted by a team-leading 25 catches for 307 yards in 2021. He went undrafted in 2023, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, and was picked up by the Seattle Seahawks on September 20, 2023, after a stint on Philadelphia's practice squad.

Career highlights

Russell earned Burlsworth Trophy consideration during his standout 2021 season at Colorado. In Seattle, he shifted from tight end to fullback during the 2025 offseason under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who leaned on the position more than his predecessor had.

2025 season recap

Russell played in all 17 regular-season games for Seattle in 2025, recording 14 tackles and a fumble recovery primarily on special teams, then helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl LX over New England. He signed a two-year, $4.8 million contract extension in March 2026.
