Bryan Cook took an unconventional path to the NFL, starting at Howard University before transferring to Cincinnati and blossoming into a physical, versatile safety. He won two Super Bowl rings in Kansas City before free agency brought him home.
Path to the league
Cook began his college career at Howard, where he played cornerback and picked off five passes over two seasons, before transferring to the University of Cincinnati via the transfer portal. Moved to safety, he earned first-team All-American Athletic Conference honors as a senior in 2021 with 96 tackles, and the Kansas City Chiefs drafted him 62nd overall in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Cook won back-to-back Super Bowls with Kansas City, capturing Super Bowl LVII over Philadelphia and earning a ring for Super Bowl LVIII despite finishing that season on injured reserve. In 2024 he started all 17 games for the first time, posting 78 tackles and two interceptions, and he intercepted a pass in the Chiefs' Super Bowl LIX loss to the Eagles.
2025 season recap
Cook remained the Chiefs' starting safety through the 2025 season, continuing to build on his career totals of 238 tackles, three interceptions and a defensive touchdown. He hit free agency afterward and signed a three-year, $40.25 million deal with the Cincinnati Bengals in March 2026, a homecoming for the Cincinnati native and Mount Healthy High School product.
