Byron Young is a defensive lineman who won a national title at Alabama before entering the NFL as a third-round pick. After a brief stint in Las Vegas, he was claimed off waivers by Philadelphia and has since worked his way back from a season-ending injury to a regular role in the Eagles' front.
Path to the league
Young played four seasons at Alabama, recording 130 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, and was part of the Crimson Tide's 2020 CFP national championship team. He earned second-team All-SEC honors as a senior in 2022 and was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders in the third round, 70th overall, of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
After a brief run with the Raiders, Young was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles in August 2024. A hamstring injury put him on injured reserve that October and cost him the rest of the season, but he was still part of the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX championship team that defeated Kansas City 40-22.
2025 season recap
Young bounced back from his lost 2024 season to appear in all 17 games for Philadelphia in 2025, making one start and recording 37 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery as a regular contributor along the Eagles' defensive front.
