Cameron Latu switched from linebacker to tight end at Alabama and has been fighting for a roster spot ever since San Francisco drafted him in 2023. After stops in Cleveland and a torn meniscus that erased his rookie year, he broke through with the Eagles in 2025, contributing on special teams and in the passing game.
Path to the league
Latu was recruited to Alabama as a pass rusher and started at linebacker before Nick Saban and then-offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian moved him to tight end in 2019. He developed into Alabama's starting tight end, catching a career-high five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown in the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship, and won a national title with the Crimson Tide. San Francisco selected him in the third round, 101st overall, in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
A torn meniscus suffered in the 2023 preseason wiped out Latu's entire rookie season on injured reserve. He bounced through Cleveland's practice squad in 2024 before landing in Philadelphia on a futures deal, finally getting extended NFL run in 2025.
2025 season recap
Latu was waived in the Eagles' final roster cuts in August 2025 but re-signed to the practice squad the next day and was promoted to the active roster in late September. He made his mark blocking a punt on September 28 that teammate Sydney Brown returned 35 yards for a touchdown, a signature special-teams play in his first extended NFL action.
