An undrafted running back who changed his last name to honor his mother and has since built a steady role as a receiving back and special teamer in Green Bay.

Chris Brooks starred at both Cal and BYU before going undrafted in 2023. After a brief stint in Miami, he found a home in Green Bay, where he has developed into a reliable third-down back and special teams presence.

Path to the league

Brooks played four seasons at Cal, rushing for 1,734 yards and 14 touchdowns and leading the Golden Bears in rushing in 2019 and 2021, before transferring to BYU for his final year of eligibility. At BYU, he ran for 817 yards and six touchdowns on 130 carries, his 6.28 yards per carry ranking fourth in program history. He went undrafted in 2023 and signed with the Miami Dolphins.

Career highlights

After Miami released him with a medical settlement in September 2024, Brooks caught on with the Green Bay Packers practice squad and worked his way onto the active roster. He signed a two-year, $4.85 million contract with the Packers in March 2026, cementing his role in the backfield.

2025 season recap

Brooks appeared in all 17 games for Green Bay in 2025, finishing with 27 carries for 106 yards and 13 catches for 91 yards while playing behind Josh Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson. He was used primarily on passing downs as a blocker and receiver, playing 203 offensive snaps and 230 special teams snaps, and added a carry and a catch in the Packers' lone playoff game.
