Christian Barmore looked like one of the best young defensive tackles in football before a blood clot scare sidelined him for most of the 2024 season. He has since returned to health and to form, giving New England's front a legitimate interior pass-rush threat again.

Path to the league

Barmore starred at Alabama, earning SEC All-Freshman honors before breaking out as a redshirt sophomore with 37 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks, and First-Team All-SEC recognition. The Patriots drafted him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Barmore developed into one of New England's most disruptive defensive linemen, highlighted by a monster 2023 season in which he recorded 8.5 sacks and 64 combined tackles, including a three-sack game against Denver. That performance signed him a four-year extension worth up to $92 million, with $41.8 million guaranteed.

2025 season recap

After missing significant time in 2024 due to recurring blood clots, Barmore returned to full health and played all 17 games in 2025. He posted two sacks, 20 solo run-defense tackles and 50 total pressures, numbers that reflected a player working his way back toward his 2023 form as one of the league's more disruptive interior linemen.
