A former Michigan State record-setter who has bounced between practice squads and NFL rosters, Cody White finally cashed in a starting-caliber moment for Seattle in 2025.

Cody White set freshman receiving records at Michigan State before turning pro early, then spent several seasons fighting for NFL roster spots with Pittsburgh before landing with the Seahawks. A championship season ended early with a groin injury, but not before he flashed with his first career touchdown.

Path to the league

White set a Michigan State freshman record with 490 receiving yards in 2017 and led the Spartans with 66 catches for 922 yards and six touchdowns as a junior before declaring early for the draft. He went unselected in 2020 and signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, spending time on their practice squad before working his way onto the active roster.

Career highlights

White finished his Michigan State career ranked seventh in program history with 143 receptions and 12th with 1,967 receiving yards. He made his NFL debut with the Steelers in 2021, and has carved out a role as a depth receiver and return man across stops that eventually led him to Seattle.

2025 season recap

White appeared in 10 games for the Seahawks during their Super Bowl LX-winning season, catching three passes for 90 yards including his first career NFL touchdown, a 60-yard score at Washington on November 2. His season ended early when he was placed on injured reserve with a groin injury suffered in Week 17 against Carolina.
