An Army veteran who grinded through two Super Bowl runs, Christiansen has carved out a career as one of the Chiefs' most reliable depth linebackers.

Cole Christiansen has bounced between the practice squad and active roster for years, but he has two Super Bowl rings to show for his patience. The former Army Black Knight brings the discipline of his service academy background to a Kansas City linebacker room that leans on him for depth and special teams work.

Path to the league

Christiansen grew up on a horse farm in Suffolk, Virginia, and starred at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy before playing four seasons at Army from 2016 to 2019. He finished his college career with 275 total tackles, including 112 as a senior, when he led the Black Knights' defense. He went undrafted in 2020 and signed with the Los Angeles Chargers before landing with Kansas City's practice squad in September 2022.

Career highlights

Christiansen won back-to-back Super Bowl championships with the Chiefs, first when Kansas City beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, then again when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Most of his contributions have come on special teams and as depth insurance at linebacker, a role he has held onto through multiple practice squad and active roster shuffles.

2025 season recap

Christiansen again spent much of 2025 shuttling between the Chiefs' practice squad and active roster, including a stretch in December when he was elevated, released back to the practice squad, and then re-signed to the 53-man roster within the same week. His on-field snaps remained limited, with his contributions coming mostly on special teams as Kansas City's linebacker depth was tested elsewhere on the roster.
