Corey Thornton went unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft after a solid final season at Louisville, but he quickly proved that draft slot did not tell the full story. Path to the league

Thornton transferred to Louisville from UCF and started 12 of 13 games in his lone season with the Cardinals, recording 38 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass breakups. He went undrafted in 2025 and signed with the Carolina Panthers, agreeing to a three-year deal shortly after the draft.

Career highlights

A Miami native who helped Booker T. Washington High School win a state championship, Thornton built his college case at Louisville by starting opposite Quincy Riley in a productive Cardinals secondary. His combination of length and ball skills made him one of the more notable undrafted defensive back signings in his class.

2025 season recap

Thornton earned a 68.5 PFF defensive grade as a rookie, breaking up two passes and allowing just seven receptions in coverage, numbers that made him the highest-graded undrafted rookie cornerback in the league by passer rating allowed. He saw his snap count rise into Weeks 11 and 12 before an injury in the latter game ended his season early.
