A former South Carolina wide receiver-turned-cornerback who has bounced through five NFL organizations since being drafted in 2023.

Darius Rush entered the league as a fourth-round pick with rare length and speed at cornerback, but his NFL path has been a journeyman's tour through Indianapolis, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and now Washington. He is working to find a permanent home as a depth corner and special teams contributor.

Path to the league

Rush converted from wide receiver to cornerback during his time at South Carolina and became a two-year starter for the Gamecocks. The Indianapolis Colts selected him in the fourth round, 138th overall, in the 2023 NFL Draft after he ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash at the combine.

Career highlights

In his final two college seasons, Rush totaled three interceptions, 15 pass breakups and a forced fumble across 21 starts, and he was flagged for pass interference only twice on over 600 collegiate coverage snaps, per Pro Football Focus. His NFL journey has since taken him through the Colts, Chiefs, Steelers, Chiefs again and Browns before landing with Washington.

2025 season recap

Rush spent 2025 bouncing between Cleveland and Washington's rosters, getting elevated from the Commanders' practice squad for their Week 15 game against the Giants. He has 3 career tackles and 1 pass deflection in limited NFL action, and he signed a reserve/futures contract with Washington in January 2026 to keep his roster spot into next season.
