DeWayne Carter was one of the most decorated defensive linemen in Duke history before Buffalo drafted him to bolster its interior defensive line. A productive rookie season in 2024 was followed by a torn Achilles that wiped out his entire 2025 campaign, leaving him working to reclaim his role in the Bills' defensive tackle rotation.

Path to the league

Carter played 50 games across four seasons at Duke, racking up 125 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks while earning first-team All-ACC honors in each of his final two seasons. He was also a three-time team captain and won the ACC's Jim Tatum Award as the conference's top student-athlete in 2023. Buffalo selected him in the third round, 95th overall, in the 2024 NFL Draft.

2025 season recap

Carter tore his Achilles tendon ahead of the 2025 season and underwent surgery, ruling him out for the entire year. He did not record any statistics in 2025 as he focused on rehabilitation, with his return targeted for the 2026 season.
