Ed Oliver arrived in Buffalo as a top-10 pick out of Houston known for his rare quickness off the line, and he developed into a productive interior pass rusher who signed a $68 million extension with the Bills. His 2025 season, though, was defined by a string of injuries that limited him to just a handful of games.

Path to the league

Oliver played defensive tackle at the University of Houston from 2016 to 2018 before the Buffalo Bills selected him ninth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Oliver has totaled 243 career tackles, 30 sacks, 9 forced fumbles and an interception through his Bills career. He signed a four-year, $68 million contract extension with Buffalo in June 2023, and posted a career-high 9.5 sacks in 2023 to go with 51 tackles. In 2024 he started all 14 games he played and led the team with three forced fumbles.

2025 season recap

Oliver's 2025 season was hampered by a string of injuries. He missed four games early in the season with an ankle injury before suffering a torn biceps in Week 8 against Carolina that required surgery and landed him on injured reserve. A subsequent meniscus injury during rehab required an additional procedure. He appeared in only three games on the season, recording 12 tackles, 3.0 sacks and a forced fumble before his year ended.
