Dillon Gabriel is a Cleveland Browns quarterback who started games as a rookie in 2025 after a productive college career that ended at Oregon.
Gabriel was a third-round pick of the Browns in 2025 out of Oregon, where he won Big Ten MVP honors. He opened the year behind Joe Flacco but took over as the starter midseason. A concussion in Week 11 opened the door for fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders.
Path to the league
Gabriel played college football at UCF, Oklahoma and Oregon across a long college run. In his final season at Oregon he earned first-team All-American honors and was named Big Ten Most Valuable Player. The Browns drafted him in the third round, 94th overall, in the 2025 NFL Draft.
2025 season
Cleveland named Gabriel the backup to Joe Flacco in August 2025. He made his NFL debut in Week 2 against Baltimore and was named the starter ahead of Week 5, making his first start against Minnesota in London on October 5, per the Browns. On November 16, he sustained a concussion against Baltimore and was ruled out, which gave Shedeur Sanders his regular-season debut.
