Drew Allar arrived at Penn State as a five-star recruit and left as the program's all-time leader in career passing yards. After entering the 2025 season with some evaluators pegging him as a potential No. 1 overall pick, an ankle injury cut his senior year short and his stock slid before the Steelers grabbed him in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Path to the league
A Medina, Ohio native and Ohio Mr. Football as a senior, Allar committed to Penn State and developed into a five-star prospect by the time of his enrollment. He started games for Penn State from 2023 through 2025, and the Steelers selected him 76th overall in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft using a pick acquired from the Dallas Cowboys.
Career highlights
Allar finished his Penn State career with 7,402 passing yards, 61 touchdowns and 13 interceptions on 63.2% completion, the most passing yards in program history, adding 732 rushing yards and 12 rushing scores. He led Penn State to a pair of College Football Playoff wins and an appearance in the national semifinal during the 2024 season.
2025 season recap
Allar's senior year was cut short by a season-ending ankle injury suffered against Northwestern on October 11, 2025. He started six games before the injury, completing 103 of 159 passes for 1,100 yards with eight touchdowns and adding 172 rushing yards and a score on the ground.
