Jacob Spomer's path to the NFL ran through a serious knee injury and a position change, from left tackle to center, that turned into his best season yet. The Northern California native signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 draft and heads into his rookie camp as one of the team's more intriguing depth pieces up front.
Path to the league
Spomer, out of Liberty High School in Brentwood, California, started his college career at Diablo Valley College before transferring to Fresno State in 2022. He spent his first three seasons with the Bulldogs at left tackle before sliding to center for his final year, and he went undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft before signing a three-year, $3.1 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Spomer earned Mountain West honorable mention honors in both 2022 and 2023 as a left tackle, then capped his career with first-team All-Mountain West recognition in 2025 after moving inside to center. He tested well at Fresno State's pro day, posting a 42-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-5 broad jump among his measurables.
2025 season recap
After a torn ACL late in 2023 limited him to five games in 2024, Spomer returned healthy in 2025 and started 13 games at center for Fresno State, posting a 75.5 Pro Football Focus grade on his way to first-team All-Mountain West honors. That performance was enough to draw undrafted free agent interest from the Chargers.
