Joe Alt was the top offensive tackle prospect in his draft class and stepped into the Chargers' starting lineup immediately as a rookie. Football runs in his blood as the son of former Chiefs Pro Bowl tackle John Alt, and he has quickly established himself as a foundational piece of Los Angeles's offensive line despite injury setbacks.
Path to the league
Alt started at left tackle for Notre Dame as a true freshman in 2021 and developed into a unanimous first-team All-American by 2023, also earning first-team All-American honors in 2022 and finishing as an Outland Trophy finalist. The Chargers selected him fifth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, signing him to a four-year rookie deal worth $33.2 million guaranteed.

2025 season recap
Alt started the first four games of 2025 before suffering a high ankle sprain in a Week 4 loss to the Giants. He returned for Weeks 8 and 9 but sustained a season-ending ankle injury against the Tennessee Titans in Week 9 and was placed on injured reserve in November. Despite the shortened season, he earned a Pro Bowl selection.
