Trey Pipkins III took an unconventional path to the NFL, starring at Division II Sioux Falls before the Chargers used a third-round pick on him in 2019. He has since developed into a versatile tackle capable of holding down either side of the line, most recently thrust into a starting role by injury.
Path to the league
Pipkins redshirted in 2014 before playing four seasons at Sioux Falls (2015-18), earning first-team All-America recognition as a senior. The Chargers selected him in the third round, 91st overall, of the 2019 NFL Draft.

2025 season recap
A season-ending injury to Joe Alt pushed Pipkins into the starting right tackle role for 2025, though he also missed four games himself with knee and ankle injuries. He finished the year ranked 36th among tackles in pass block win rate (90.2 percent) and 63rd in run block win rate (68.3 percent). Following the season, the Chargers re-signed him to a two-year, $10 million deal.
