Lucky Jackson has taken one of the more circuitous routes in football, bouncing from Western Kentucky to the CFL, the XFL, the Minnesota Vikings, and a UFL championship before joining the Lions. At 29, he brings return skills and veteran polish to Detroit's receiver room after helping the Louisville Kings win a UFL title.
Path to the league
A two-star recruit out of Lexington, Kentucky, Jackson played five seasons at Western Kentucky from 2015 to 2019. He went undrafted in 2020 and spent the following years piecing together a pro career, including time with the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Edmonton Elks and the XFL's DC Defenders, where he earned All-XFL honors in 2023.
Career highlights
Jackson's best college season came in 2019, when he caught 94 passes for 1,133 yards, good for eighth in the FBS and second in single-season WKU history, earning first-team All-Conference USA honors. He was named MVP of the First Responder Bowl that year with 17 receptions. He also spent time on the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad and active roster across 2023-2025, appearing in three games in 2023.
2025 season recap
After his run with Minnesota, Jackson signed with the UFL's Louisville Kings and became a key contributor in 2026, leading the team with 32 receptions for 392 yards and two touchdowns while also serving as the primary punt returner. He caught the first touchdown in Louisville Kings franchise history and helped the team win the UFL championship before signing with the Detroit Lions.
