A Dallas native who started 27 games over two seasons at Texas, Malik Muhammad turned a two-interception game against Oklahoma into a fourth-round selection by Chicago.
Malik Muhammad left Texas with a year of eligibility still on the table, betting on himself after a junior season that included SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Bears traded up to grab him in the fourth round, landing a physical, press-capable corner with starter-level tools who grew up just miles from his college campus's rival programs in the Dallas area.
Path to the league
A South Oak Cliff High School product from Dallas, Texas, Muhammad committed to play close to home at Texas. He played three seasons for the Longhorns, appearing in 41 games with 29 starts, before declaring early for the 2026 NFL Draft. The Bears traded up with Carolina, sending picks 129 and 144 for picks 124 and 166, to select him 124th overall.
Career highlights
Over his Texas career, Muhammad recorded 97 total tackles, three interceptions, 19 passes defended, one sack and 3.5 tackles for loss. He earned preseason All-SEC second-team recognition ahead of both his 2024 and 2025 seasons and was named to the 2025 All-SEC second team, and he ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash with a 39-inch vertical at the combine.
2025 season recap
In his final season at Texas, Muhammad played 11 games before declaring for the draft, highlighted by an SEC Defensive Player of the Week performance against Oklahoma in which he intercepted two passes, broke up another and recorded a tackle for loss. He was named to the All-SEC second team for his 2025 play before the Bears selected him in the fourth round.
