A former high school state champion quarterback who converted to receiver at FIU and has carved out a long journeyman NFL run.

Maurice Alexander Jr. is a well-traveled wide receiver now with the Chicago Bears after years of practice-squad work with the Detroit Lions. A Miami native who once led his high school to an undefeated state title as a dual-threat quarterback, he has stayed in professional football through the USFL and multiple NFL stints since going undrafted in 2020.

Path to the league

Alexander starred at Booker T. Washington High School in Miami, where as a senior he led the Tornadoes to a 15-0 record and a state championship while passing for 3,060 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushing for 466 yards and seven more scores, earning Dade County Player of the Year and First-team All-State honors. At FIU, he redshirted before eventually moving from quarterback to wide receiver in 2018. He went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

At FIU, Alexander caught 65 passes for 772 yards and 6 touchdowns across his final two seasons, earning First-team All-Conference USA in 2018. After going undrafted, he played in the USFL for the Philadelphia Stars in 2022, where he was named to the All-USFL Team and led the league in kickoff return yardage before signing with the Detroit Lions later that year.

2025 season recap

Alexander spent parts of three seasons on the Detroit Lions' roster and practice squad, appearing sparingly and recording one career regular-season catch for seven yards. He signed with the Chicago Bears in January 2025 and has continued working to earn a consistent role as a depth receiver and special-teams contributor.
