The first Minnesota-born starting quarterback to play for the Golden Gophers and reach the NFL in decades, Max Brosmer went from FCS star to Vikings roster spot as an undrafted rookie.

Max Brosmer is a quarterback who built an FCS passing resume at New Hampshire before transferring to Minnesota for a final college season, then made the Vikings' 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent in 2025. He became the first starting quarterback from the University of Minnesota to play in the NFL since 2002 and the first University of New Hampshire quarterback to ever take an NFL snap.

Path to the league

Brosmer started as a true freshman at New Hampshire in 2019, then tore his ACL in preseason practice in 2021 and took a medical redshirt. He bounced back to throw for over 3,100 yards in 2022 and led all of FCS football with 3,464 passing yards as a senior in 2023, earning first-team All-American and All-CAA honors. He transferred to Minnesota for the 2024 season, completing 66.8 percent of his passes for 2,617 yards and 17 touchdowns against just five interceptions, then went unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft before signing with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent.

Career highlights

Brosmer's senior season at New Hampshire remains the headline of his college career, leading the FCS in passing yardage while earning All-American recognition. His single season at Minnesota was strong enough to make him the program's first NFL quarterback in over two decades, and it was enough to convince the Vikings to keep him on their initial 53-man roster over more heralded names.

2025 season recap

Brosmer appeared in seven games for Minnesota as a rookie, making two starts, and completed 47 of 71 passes for 328 yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions. His most notable moment came in a Week 17 start against Detroit, when he helped the Vikings win despite throwing for fewer than 70 yards and getting sacked seven times, a rare feat in the Super Bowl era.
