A former unranked recruit and walk-on, Maximus Pulley turned a breakout run at FCS Wofford into a consensus All-American season and a contract with the Eagles.
Maximus Pulley's road to professional football started as a midseason walk-on at Western Kentucky and ended with him as one of the most decorated defensive backs in Wofford history. He signed with the Eagles after going unselected in the 2026 draft, part of a story that stood out given Wofford had not produced an NFL draft pick since 1958.
Path to the league
Pulley was an unranked recruit out of L.D. Bell High School who played running back and wide receiver before moving to defense. He walked on at Western Kentucky partway through the season, appearing in 10 games with limited defensive snaps, before transferring to Wofford, where he became a full-time starter at safety.
Career highlights
Across 34 games at Wofford, Pulley totaled 194 tackles, seven interceptions, and eight pass breakups. He was named a consensus FCS All-American, earned first-team All-Southern Conference honors, was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, and was also recognized as a second-team CSC Academic All-American with a 3.64 GPA.
2025 season recap
In his senior season, Pulley posted 83 tackles and five interceptions in 11 games while allowing just 24 receptions in coverage, production that made him one of the top safeties in the FCS. He went unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft but signed a three-year contract with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent.
