A second-round pass rusher who led all of college football with 17 sacks at Marshall after transforming from a Virginia linebacker into an elite edge threat.

Mike Green's path to the NFL ran through a stop-and-start college career: he began as a 215-pound linebacker at Virginia, took a year away from football, then reemerged at Marshall as the nation's most productive pass rusher. Baltimore drafted him in the second round to add juice to its outside linebacker rotation, a decision the team says followed extensive vetting of past sexual assault allegations against Green, who was never charged and has denied wrongdoing.

Path to the league

Green started his college career at Virginia before stepping away from football for a year and transferring to Marshall, where he bulked up and shifted to edge rusher. He broke out in 2024 with 84 tackles, including 23 for loss, and an FBS-best 17 sacks, earning Sun Belt Player of the Year honors. The Ravens selected him with the 59th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Green's 17-sack season led every player in the FBS in 2024, a remarkable jump for a player who began his college career as an undersized linebacker. His draft process drew scrutiny after it emerged he had faced sexual assault allegations at Virginia, which contributed to his transfer, as well as a separate allegation in high school. Green was never criminally charged in either case. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said the team investigated the allegations thoroughly, including a 90-minute pre-draft meeting with Green, before selecting him.

2025 season recap

As a rookie, Green joined Baltimore's outside linebacker rotation behind veterans Kyle Van Noy, Odafe Oweh and Tavius Robinson, working to translate his college sack production into an NFL role as a situational and developing pass rusher.
