Miles Davis spent five seasons at BYU without ever becoming a featured back, then found a breakout role in a single season at Utah State. After going undrafted and taking a look from Seattle that didn't lead anywhere, he landed with the Panthers as a free agent.
Path to the league
Davis played five seasons at BYU from 2020 to 2024, working mostly in a complementary role, before transferring to Utah State for his final year of eligibility. He went undrafted in 2026, had a rookie minicamp tryout with the Seattle Seahawks that didn't result in a contract, and then signed with the Carolina Panthers.
Career highlights
Davis picked up the nickname "the Scorcerer," a play on jazz legend Miles Davis's "Sorcerer" moniker, for his knack for finding the end zone. His clearest college highlight came in his Utah State debut, when he ran for 88 yards and a touchdown and added six catches for 61 yards against UTEP.
2025 season recap
In his only season at Utah State, Davis ran for a career-high 731 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 5.6 yards per carry, and chipped in 28 receptions for 201 yards and three more scores out of the backfield.
