Miles Killebrew has forged a decade-long NFL career largely through his impact on special teams, becoming one of the most feared coverage players in football during his run with the Steelers. The hard-hitting safety out of Southern Utah is now working back from a knee injury as he begins a new chapter in Tampa Bay.
Path to the league
Killebrew starred at Southern Utah, finishing his college career with 356 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, three interceptions and two defensive touchdowns. The Detroit Lions selected him in the fourth round (111th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
After four seasons in Detroit, Killebrew signed with Pittsburgh in 2021 and became one of the league's premier special teams players, earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2023 and Pro Bowl selections following the 2023 and 2024 seasons, both as a special teamer. His four career blocked punts are tied for the most among active players, and his special teams snap count ranks among the league leaders since he entered the NFL in 2016.
2025 season recap
Killebrew's 2025 season was cut short by injury. He recorded five tackles through Pittsburgh's first five games before suffering a significant knee injury in Week 6 against Cleveland and landing on injured reserve on October 16, 2025. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2026.
