Renardo Green moved from safety back to cornerback late in his Florida State career and immediately impressed evaluators with his coverage instincts. Two seasons into his 49ers career, he has become a full-time starter working to add more playmaking to his game.
Path to the league
Green played both safety and cornerback across 53 games at Florida State from 2019-23, finishing his college career with 148 tackles and earning All-ACC second team honors as a senior after leading the Seminoles with 13 pass breakups. The 49ers traded up to draft him 64th overall in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, with PFF's Trevor Sikkema naming him the class's best man-coverage cornerback prospect.
Career highlights
Green worked almost exclusively on special teams through the first five weeks of his rookie season before taking over as a primary outside cornerback for the rest of 2024, finishing his first two NFL seasons with 121 total tackles, 23 pass deflections, an interception and a forced fumble.
2025 season recap
Green started regularly at cornerback for San Francisco in 2025, breaking up seven passes and cutting his missed tackles in half from the prior year, but he did not record an interception, and his coverage numbers took a step back as his targeted passer rating allowed rose.
