A Stony Brook product who has carved out a career as a rotational Browns defensive lineman, Sam Kamara posted a career year in 2024 before his workload dipped in an injury-shortened 2025.
Kamara grew up in Carteret, New Jersey, and took a road less traveled to the NFL by way of FCS program Stony Brook. He has spent parts of four seasons with Cleveland, cycling between the practice squad and active roster while gradually carving out a reserve role along the defensive line.
Path to the league
Kamara starred on both sides of the ball at Carteret High School before landing at Stony Brook, where he started all 13 games at defensive end as a sophomore and led the team with nine sacks and 42 tackles, including 11.5 for loss, as a junior. He signed with the Cleveland Browns and has spent time on their roster and practice squad since 2022.
Career highlights
Kamara's most productive NFL season came in 2024, when he set career highs with 15 tackles, 11 games played and 262 defensive snaps, including his first career start in Cleveland's Week 18 game against Baltimore, where he recorded six tackles while playing 87 percent of the defensive snaps.
2025 season recap
Kamara's 2025 season was limited, appearing in four games with six total tackles and no sacks as he worked as a depth piece along Cleveland's defensive line. The Browns re-signed him to continue in that reserve role heading into 2026.
