Sebastian Gutierrez is the first Minot State product to play in an NFL game since 1980, and he has done it while bouncing through seven different organizations.
Gutierrez converted from tight end to offensive tackle at tiny Minot State and has spent his entire pro career fighting for practice squad spots across the league. Now back with New England for a third stint, the well-traveled lineman remains a longshot but a durable one.
Path to the league
A Pasco, Washington native, Gutierrez played offensive tackle at Minot State from 2016 to 2021 after converting from tight end, starting 33 games before leaving school in 2022. He went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft but signed immediately with the Denver Broncos as a free agent.
Career highlights
Gutierrez is the first Minot State alum to appear in an NFL game since former Patriots and Giants lineman Terry Falcon in 1980. He made his NFL debut for the Las Vegas Raiders against Pittsburgh on December 24, 2022, and has since bounced through practice squads and reserve/futures deals with the Chiefs, Browns, 49ers, Colts and Patriots.
2025 season recap
Gutierrez has appeared in just two NFL games across his career, with most of his 2025 season spent on practice squads. He returned to New England's practice squad again in early 2026, marking his third stint with the organization, and currently holds down a roster spot as an offensive tackle.
