Solomon Byrd is a defensive end for the Houston Texans who carved out a college career at two very different programs, Wyoming and USC, before Houston took a seventh-round flier on him in the 2024 NFL Draft. Football runs in his family, with two uncles who played in the NFL before him.
Path to the league
Byrd starred at Knight High School in Palmdale, California, racking up 155 tackles and 16 sacks before spending his first four college seasons at Wyoming. After entering the transfer portal, he finished his career at USC in 2022 and 2023. The Texans selected him in the seventh round, 238th overall, of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Byrd was named FWAA Freshman All-American at Wyoming in 2019 after posting 45 tackles and 6.5 sacks. Across his college career at Wyoming and USC, he totaled roughly 115 tackles and more than 10 sacks. His uncles Manfred Moore and Malcolm Moore both played in the NFL, with Manfred winning Super Bowl XI with the Oakland Raiders.
