Stephen Gosnell built buzz in Buffalo's building before he had ever caught an NFL pass, turning heads in offseason work and camp with quarterback Josh Allen after going unselected in the 2025 draft. The Pilot Mountain, North Carolina native transferred from North Carolina to Virginia Tech, where he developed into the Hokies' top target as a senior.
Path to the league
Gosnell began his college career at North Carolina in 2020-2021 before transferring to Virginia Tech, where he played from 2022 to 2024. Across his three seasons in Blacksburg he caught 60 passes for 987 yards and five touchdowns, and he went undrafted in 2025 before signing with the Bills.
Career highlights
His best season came as a senior in 2024, when he led Virginia Tech with 28 catches for 506 yards and averaged more than 18 yards per reception. At 6-foot-2 and 198 pounds, he earned a reputation in Buffalo's building as an early camp standout who made highlight plays alongside Josh Allen.
2025 season recap
Gosnell was waived by the Bills during roster cutdowns in August 2025 after an eye-catching camp, then was brought back to the practice squad the following day. He signed a reserve/futures contract with Buffalo in January 2026 to continue competing for a roster spot.
