A Super Bowl champion and Stanford product who spent two years on a religious mission before ever playing college football, Tanner McKee has developed into a trusted backup behind center for the Eagles.

Tanner McKee's path to the NFL ran through a two-year mission in Brazil before he ever threw a college pass at Stanford. Drafted in the sixth round by Philadelphia in 2023, he has since won a Super Bowl ring and stepped into meaningful game action as the Eagles' primary backup quarterback.

Path to the league

McKee delayed his college career for two years while serving a mission in Brazil for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, then enrolled at Stanford in 2020. He started 21 games for the Cardinal from 2021 to 2022, including a memorable overtime upset of third-ranked Oregon, and the Eagles selected him in the sixth round, 188th overall, of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

McKee made his NFL debut in Week 17 of the 2024 season, throwing for 54 yards and two touchdowns in relief of Kenny Pickett, then started Week 18 against the Giants and threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns without a turnover in a 20-13 win. He was part of the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX championship team that season.

2025 season recap

McKee saw spot duty for the Eagles in 2025, completing all three of his passes for 33 yards in relief action during Week 15. He started Week 18 against Washington, completing 21 of 40 passes for 241 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a 24-17 loss, and carries a career 61.4 completion percentage with a 95.7 passer rating.
