Tony Fields II

A well-traveled linebacker who transferred from Arizona to West Virginia and became a conference newcomer of the year, Tony Fields II has built his NFL path through special teams and, most recently, a standout UFL season.

Tony Fields II has spent his pro career fighting for roster spots after a productive college run that spanned two Power Five programs. Undersized expectations never stopped his production, and after a stint out of the league he re-emerged as one of the UFL's top linebackers before earning another NFL opportunity. He now competes for a role in Chicago's linebacker room.

Path to the league

Fields was a three-year starter at Arizona before transferring to West Virginia for the 2020 season, where he led the Mountaineers with 88 tackles in just nine games. He earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors and the Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year award in his lone season with the Mountaineers. The Cleveland Browns drafted him in the fifth round, 153rd overall, in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Fields spent his early NFL seasons primarily as a special-teams contributor for Cleveland, accumulating tackles, a forced fumble and multiple fumble recoveries in a reserve role. His career has been defined by persistence, bouncing between rosters while continuing to produce whenever given playing time.

2025 season recap

Fields signed with the Los Angeles Rams for the 2025 preseason, recording 19 tackles in three preseason games before being released in late August. He didn't see NFL regular-season action in 2025, instead resurfacing with the Columbus Aviators of the UFL, where his standout tackle production later helped him land another NFL camp opportunity.
