A record-setting Florida placekicker who became the first kicker off the board in the 2026 NFL Draft, going to Green Bay in a trade-up.
Trey Smack spent four seasons as Florida's kicker, setting a program record for long field goals and twice reaching Lou Groza Award semifinalist status. The Green Bay Packers traded both of their seventh-round picks to Seattle to move up and select him in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, making him the first kicker taken that year.
Path to the league
A Severna Park, Maryland native, Smack chose Florida over offers from Navy, Virginia Tech and Air Force after ranking among the top kickers and punters in his high school class per Kohl's Kicking. He served as a kickoff specialist as a freshman before winning Florida's starting kicker job in 2023 and holding it through 2025. Green Bay traded up to draft him at No. 216 overall, the first kicker selected in the 2026 draft.
Career highlights
Smack made 53 of 64 field goals (82.8%) and 100 of 101 extra points (99%) across his Florida career, and he set the school record with nine field goals of 50-plus yards over his final three seasons combined. He was a two-time Lou Groza Award semifinalist and one of just three FBS kickers to convert five field goals of 50-plus yards in the 2025 season.
2025 season recap
In his final Florida season, Smack made 18 of 22 field goals and 27 of 28 extra points, highlighted by his program-record run of long field goals, and earned Third-team All-SEC honors. That performance made him the top kicker prospect in the 2026 draft class, and the Packers moved up to take him in the sixth round.
