Ohio State nose tackle who anchored a national championship defense before the Rams took him in round five.

Ty Hamilton spent five years in Columbus before the Rams drafted him in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He is the younger brother of Jaguars defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton and comes from a program that sent a wave of defensive linemen to the league. As a rookie, he worked his way into the Rams' interior rotation at nose tackle.

Path to the league

Hamilton, a Pickerington, Ohio native, played five seasons at Ohio State and was part of the Buckeyes' 2024 national championship run. The Rams selected him with the 148th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, making him the fourth starter off that title-winning Ohio State defensive line to be drafted that year, joining first-round pick Tyleik Williams and edge rushers J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer.

Career highlights

Over his Ohio State career, Hamilton recorded 116 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and eight sacks. His best season came as a starting nose tackle in 2024, when he posted 51 tackles, six tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for the nation's top-ranked defense.

2025 season recap

As a rookie with the Rams, Hamilton played in 14 games but saw a modest workload, finishing with 11 tackles. He had a rough moment in Week 16 against Seattle when he was driven off the ball on a play that sprung a 55-yard Kenneth Walker III touchdown run, part of an up-and-down first season in run defense.
