Tyrone Tracy Jr. is a running back for the New York Giants whose unusual path, from Iowa receiver to Purdue running back to NFL All-Rookie honoree, has made him one of the more surprising success stories in recent Giants draft classes. He has quickly grown into a featured role in New York's backfield.

Path to the league

A native of Indianapolis, Tracy began his college career at Iowa as a wide receiver from 2018 to 2021 before transferring to Purdue. He switched to running back ahead of the 2023 season, rushing for 716 yards and eight touchdowns in his lone year at the position for the Boilermakers. The Giants selected him in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Tracy made an immediate impact as a rookie, rushing for 839 yards and five touchdowns while adding 284 receiving yards and a touchdown catch on 38 receptions. He finished third among all rookies in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns and earned a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

2025 season recap

Tracy topped 1,000 scrimmage yards in his second NFL season, rushing 176 times for 740 yards and two touchdowns while catching 36 passes for 288 yards and two more scores. His workload was inconsistent for stretches as he battled early-season absences and shared carries with rookie Cam Skattebo, but he took over as New York's clear lead back late in the year after Skattebo's season-ending ankle injury.
