Bears' Cole Kmet Out for the Season With Knee Injury
Update: the Bears placed Kmet on season-ending injured reserve after Friday's tests on his right knee.
Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet was carted off with a right knee injury with 5:46 left in Thursday night's 30-24 win over New England. He caught an 8-yard pass from Caleb Williams and was hit by Christian Gonzalez and Robert Spillane.
How bad is it?
The Bears do not know yet. Kmet could not bear weight on the leg and gave a thumbs-up as he was carted off. "I don't think it looked very good," Ben Johnson said, adding that the team would learn more Friday. Kmet had missed one game to injury in seven seasons. Colston Loveland is the other starting tight end. "We're going to miss him, for sure," Loveland said.
How long is he out?
The rest of the season. Ben Johnson announced Friday that the serious right knee injury ends Kmet's year. "He's one of the glue guys," Johnson said. "It stinks, it does. I hate it for him. I hate it for his teammates as well." He added that the offense would not change who it is as a result.
