2022 Heisman winner and 2024 No. 1 overall pick whose sophomore season broke a Bears single-season passing record.
Caleb Williams' second year was the rebound the Bears needed. He threw for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns against just seven interceptions, set the Chicago single-season passing record, and dragged a team that was 5-12 the year before into the playoffs. Year three is when the league expects him to take the next step.
Path to the league
Started his college career at Oklahoma under Lincoln Riley, followed Riley to USC, and won the Heisman as a sophomore in 2022 with 4,537 passing yards and 42 touchdowns. Declared after the 2023 season. The Bears took him first overall in 2024.
Career highlights
Bears' single-season passing record at 3,942 yards (2025). 27 passing TDs and 7 INTs in 2025, fifth-best TD-INT ratio in the league. Named the Bears' Offensive Player of the Year. PFF grade of 75.4, 16th among 43 qualified quarterbacks.
2025 season recap
The Bears went 9-8 and made the playoffs as a Wild Card. Williams added 388 rushing yards and 3 rushing TDs on 77 carries. His completion percentage (58.1) stayed below where the team wanted it, but the touchdown-to-interception ratio was an enormous jump from his rookie year.
What to watch in 2026
Chicago drew a top-10 hardest schedule by projected opponent win totals, the price of being in an NFC North with three playoff teams. Williams enters year three with full ownership of head coach Ben Johnson's offense and a deeper receiver room. The next visible jump is accuracy on intermediate throws.
