Bears Trade Two First-Round Picks to the Titans for Jeffery Simmons

Chicago sends its 2027 and 2028 first-round picks and a 2027 fourth-rounder to Tennessee for the All-Pro defensive tackle, who signed a $105.8 million extension in the offseason.

The Chicago Bears acquired defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans on Thursday for their 2027 and 2028 first-round picks and a 2027 fourth-round pick. The deal also includes a 2028 fifth-round pick. Simmons is the first defensive tackle in the common draft era to be traded for multiple first-round picks, according to ESPN Research.

What do the Bears get?

Simmons was a first-team All-Pro last season with a career-high 11 sacks. Through seven games this season he led Tennessee with four sacks, six tackles for loss and four passes defended, and his 27 percent pass rush win rate is the highest among defensive tackles, per ESPN Analytics and NFL Next Gen Stats. He signed a three-year, $105.8 million extension with $100 million guaranteed before the season and is under contract through 2030.

What did the Titans say?

General manager Mike Borgonzi said Tennessee never tried to trade him. Coach Robert Saleh said that "eventually a team threw a hook big enough that I don't think any of us could have said no to." The Titans are 1-6 and play at Cincinnati on Sunday.

What's next for Chicago?

The Bears are 5-2 and play at Seattle on Monday night. The trade deadline is Nov. 10.
