Texans Trade for Marvin Harrison Jr., Reuniting Him With C.J. Stroud
Houston sends 2027 second- and sixth-round picks to Arizona for the fourth pick of the 2024 draft and a seventh-rounder. Harrison had five catches in four games this season. Mike LaFleur said he blames himself for Harrison's development.
The Houston Texans acquired receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday for 2027 second- and sixth-round picks, with a 2027 seventh-round pick coming back to Houston. DeMeco Ryans announced the deal at the end of his news conference after a 26-3 win at Tennessee: "We traded for Marvin Harrison. See ya!"
Why did Arizona move on?
Harrison, the fourth pick in 2024, had five catches on 12 targets for 85 yards and a touchdown in four games this season and was inactive against Detroit while the trade was completed. "I just thought it was in the best interest of the club," coach Mike LaFleur said, adding that he blamed himself for Harrison not developing as expected. The Cardinals had already paid his $22.5 million signing bonus; he is owed $4 million this season and $5.62 million in 2027, with a fifth-year option decision due this offseason. "It definitely happened fast," Jacoby Brissett said.
What does Houston get?
A receiver Stroud knows well. The two were teammates at Ohio State in 2021 and 2022 and both were All-Americans in 2022. "He's probably the hardest worker I've ever been around in my life," Stroud said. Houston lost Jayden Higgins to a torn ACL before the season and had Nico Collins out for two games, and it won its first game of the year on Sunday to go 1-4.
