Jahmyr Gibbs Passes Barry Sanders for Most NFL Touchdowns Before Age 25
Gibbs' second touchdown in a 45-21 win at Arizona was his 58th, one more than Sanders had before turning 25. He has nine touchdowns in five games and says he is chasing LaDainian Tomlinson's single-season record.
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs scored his 58th career touchdown in Sunday's 45-21 win at Arizona, passing Barry Sanders for the most by any NFL player before turning 25. Gibbs, 24, wore No. 20 in tribute to Sanders.
How did the game go?
Gibbs ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns and caught passes for 56 more. After a three-and-out start and a 7-0 deficit, Detroit scored on seven straight drives, the longest streak by any team this season. Jared Goff went 19 of 30 for 271 yards and three touchdowns and has 12 touchdown passes without an interception this year. "Impressive. It's very cool that it's Barry's record, too," Goff said. Sanders posted: "Awesome to see another Lions have this record."
What is Gibbs chasing now?
LaDainian Tomlinson's single-season record of 28 rushing touchdowns, which Gibbs said he is "for sure" pursuing. He has seven rushing and two receiving touchdowns, the most in the league. Detroit is 3-2, leads the NFL at 32.8 points per game and heads into its bye, with safety Brian Branch's 21-day practice window now open.
