Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Fully Cleared for Camp, Says He's 'Feeling Amazing'

Patrick Mahomes has been cleared for full participation at Kansas City Chiefs training camp, seven months after surgery to repair torn ACL and LCL ligaments in his left knee. "I feel stronger than I've ever felt, as far as strength and lifting," Mahomes said. "I feel amazing."
How did Mahomes get hurt?
Mahomes sustained the injury in the closing minutes of a 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 14, a result that eliminated Kansas City from playoff contention. He underwent surgery shortly after to repair the torn ACL and LCL, kicking off a rehab process that has now stretched roughly seven months.
Will he wear a brace to start camp?
Mahomes said he plans to open camp wearing a knee brace but is not committing to keeping it on long-term. "I will start with it on just because I feel like still I can move and be myself with it," he said, framing the brace as a precaution rather than a limitation on how he practices.
Is he on track for Week 1?
Head coach Andy Reid struck an optimistic tone when asked whether Mahomes could be ready for Kansas City's season opener against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 14. "I'm optimistic, and I know he is extremely optimistic," Reid said. Mahomes echoed that outlook himself, saying he's simply excited to be back on the field after a rehab that has gone well enough to earn him a clean bill of health for the start of camp.
