Colts GM Sees QB Room With Anthony Richardson, Despite Trade Ask
Chris Ballard says he envisions keeping Richardson, Daniel Jones and Riley Leonard all on the roster into the season, even with Richardson's trade request still unrescinded.
Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard says he envisions a final roster that keeps quarterback Anthony Richardson, despite Richardson's outstanding trade request from earlier this year. "We've had some calls, but nothing's come to fruition at this time," Ballard told reporters as camp opened.
Where does the trade request stand?
Richardson told reporters in May that he had not rescinded the request but that his focus would remain on the Colts while he was still with the team. Ballard's comments this week confirm the request is technically still active, even as the front office signals no urgency to move him.
Who's actually QB1?
The Colts head into 2026 with Daniel Jones as the presumptive starter after he led Indianapolis to an 8-5 record last season before a torn Achilles ended his year in Week 14. Ballard said he intends to carry all three of his top quarterbacks - Richardson, Jones and Riley Leonard - onto the roster into the regular season.
What would it take for Richardson to actually move?
Ballard reiterated he's not inclined to deal Richardson without significant compensation in return, a stance that has held since the trade calls began. For now, that leaves Richardson in an unusual spot: on the roster, with a trade request on file, and no deal close to materializing.
