Commanders' Laremy Tunsil Suffers Torn Triceps, Set to Miss Significant Time
The left tackle was hurt in a one-on-one pass-rush drill against Odafe Oweh and will likely need surgery, just months after signing a record-setting extension.
Washington Commanders left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps during Saturday's training camp practice and will likely require surgery, sidelining him for a significant portion of the 2026 season, a source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Steve Wyche.
How did the injury happen?
Tunsil was hurt in a one-on-one pass-rush drill when free-agent addition Odafe Oweh rushed inside and drove into his upper body. Tunsil immediately showed pain, held his side, and was taken to the medical tent.
How long could he be out?
Recovery from this type of injury typically runs four to seven months, meaning Tunsil could miss most or all of the regular season depending on how surgery and rehab go.
Who fills in at left tackle?
Brandon Coleman, who started 12 games at left tackle as a rookie in 2024 and three more last season, is the likeliest option, with veteran Andrew Wylie, normally a right tackle, as another possibility. The injury is a significant blow given Tunsil, 32, signed a two-year extension worth roughly $30 million per year just months ago, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the league, and has been mentoring young right tackle Josh Conerly Jr. while protecting quarterback Jayden Daniels's blindside.
