Commanders' Terry McLaurin Out for the Season With Torn Patellar Tendon
McLaurin, 31, was hurt cutting on a route in the first quarter of Monday night's loss at San Francisco and carted off. He led Washington with 230 receiving yards.
Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin tore the patellar tendon in his left knee in Monday night's 23-17 loss at San Francisco and will miss the rest of the season, coach Dan Quinn said. "Man, he brings a lot on and off the field," Quinn said. "It's a big hit, and we'll lean on a number of guys."
How did it happen?
Late in the first quarter, McLaurin went down cutting on a route on a play that ended in a sack of Jayden Daniels, and he was carted off. He had 15 catches for 230 yards this season, the team lead, and a 27-yard catch before the injury. He had already missed Week 4 with a hamstring injury and sat out seven games in 2025.
What does it mean for Washington?
Stefon Diggs becomes the top receiver, with Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown and rookie Antonio Williams behind him. The 1-4-1 Commanders are on a bye this week. McLaurin, a third-round pick in 2019 with five straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2020 to 2024, signed a three-year extension in 2025 that Washington could restructure or end after the season, which would save about $8.5 million against next year's cap.
