The NFL fined the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints $500,000 each after multiple fights broke out during Tuesday's joint practice, citing a pre-camp memo reminding teams of their responsibility to prevent unsportsmanlike conduct in joint sessions.
What happened at practice?
Fights broke out on both fields as offensive and defensive units split up, with punches thrown, a helmet tossed and one player body-slammed. Practice was stopped repeatedly. Cowboys pass rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku was ejected for throwing a punch, his second such ejection during this camp.
Is there further discipline?
Jerry Jones said Dallas will levy its own player fines, which are permitted under the collective bargaining agreement, and that the Cowboys plan to appeal the league's fine. No suspensions have been reported. Two NFL officiating crews were on-site for the session.
