Eagles' Lane Johnson Enters Camp With a Farewell Mindset
The right tackle, back after missing four practices to be with family, says 2026 is likely his last season even as he insists he can still play at a premier level.
Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson said he's likely entering his final NFL season, rejoining the team after missing four practices for personal family reasons. "It's looking like this is potentially going to be probably my last year just because I am getting to that point," Johnson said.
Why did he step away from camp?
Johnson was on excused personal leave tied to family matters, including time with his parents and his children back home in Oklahoma. "As you get older, things change in your life, priorities. Your children get older, your parents get older, it just puts things into perspective," he said, noting his oldest child recently turned 13. "It's hard to get time back, especially those years I feel like are very pivotal."
Does this mean he's declining on the field?
Johnson pushed back on that read directly: "I still feel I can be a premier tackle in this league." He's entering his 14th NFL season at 36, coming off a 2025 campaign cut short by a Lisfranc injury that cost him the final eight games.
What does his Eagles career look like?
Philadelphia took Johnson fourth overall in the 2013 draft out of Oklahoma. He's made six Pro Bowls, earned two first-team All-Pro selections, and helped the Eagles win both Super Bowl titles in franchise history.
